A replica of a Korean mission ship arrived at Osaka Port on the afternoon of the 11th. It had been sailing for about 13 days since it departed from Busan on the 28th of last month. After leaving Busan, the replica ship passed through Tsushima, Shimonoseki, Kure, Fukuyama, etc.
The trip took place in Osaka, Japan, and the final destination was Osaka. Including the maritime route from Mokpo, where the National Maritime Heritage Research Institute is located, the round trip was about 2,000 kilometers.
The Korean Envoys were the 12th Korean missions sent to Japan between 1607 and 1811, following the establishment of the Edo Shogunate after the Bunroku-Keicho War.
The mission consisted of 450 to 500 people, including the chief envoy, deputy envoy, attending officers, doctors, interpreters, and pharmacists, and sailed in a fleet of six ships.
The replica ship was built in 2018 as part of a project to revive traditional ships. The final ship, the 1811 one, will be built in 2023.
The ship sailed to Tsushima, the final destination of the 12th envoy, and successfully replicated the original route. Last year, the ship entered Shimonoseki, the same port as the 11th envoy from 1763 to 1764. This year,
The route that the Japanese took to Osaka via Shimonoseki is reproduced. The arrival at Osaka will be the first in 261 years since the Japanese envoys first arrived at the port.
Events and performances commemorating the ship's arrival are scheduled to be held in Osaka on May 13th, in conjunction with "Osaka's First Day of the Year."
