”Let's trade coins”...Three Russians lured into hotel for robbery, now under pursuit in South Korea
Police are pursuing a group of foreigners who lured Korean men to a hotel to trade virtual currency (coins), then assaulted them and attempted to steal 1 billion won (about 100 million yen).
On the 21st, the Gangseo Police Station in Seoul is pursuing three Russian men, including suspect A, on suspicion of robbery and assault. The police have identified suspect A and are investigating the specific incident.
The details of the incident are currently under investigation. The suspects are accused of confining two Korean men at a hotel in Gangseo-gu, Seoul on the 20th, assaulting them with a blunt object, and attempting to steal 1 billion won in cash.
Although the victim was violently assaulted with a blunt object, his life was not in danger. According to the police, the suspects lured 10 Koreans, including the victim, into their own home, saying they wanted to do P2P coin trading.
The suspects called the victims to the hotel. Of the 10 people who came to the hotel at the time, only two of the victims entered the guest rooms. Suspect A and his associates threatened the victims with model guns, assaulted them with three-pronged clubs, and took 1 billion won in cash.
They reportedly tried to steal the bag that was inside. However, after one of the victims escaped, it was determined that suspect A and his group gave up on the money and fled.
Police responded to the scene at around 8:30 pm on the 20th after receiving a report that a man was bleeding in the hotel lobby.
An application has been made for a departure ban order against the three Russian nationals, including suspect A, and investigations are ongoing to determine whether there are any other accomplices.
