President Lee Jae Myung arrives in Canada... South Korea kicks off summit diplomacy for the first time in six months
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung arrived at Calgary Airport in Canada on the 16th (local time) to attend the G7 Summit. During his three-day, one-night trip, President Lee met with leaders of the countries.
Through the talks with the leaders, the summit diplomacy that has been suspended for six months will be restarted. On the 16th, an exclusive session will be held with only the G7 leaders in attendance.
He is scheduled to meet with non-G7 leaders from various countries shortly. The non-G7 countries include South Korea, Australia, Brazil, India, Mexico, South Africa and Ukraine.
The total number of countries is seven. President Lee will attend the dinner party on the same night with his wife Kim Hye-kyung. On the morning of the second day, President Lee will travel to Calgary, 100 km away.
The day will see the start of a welcoming ceremony for the invited countries, a commemorative photo session with the leaders of the G7 and invited countries, and an expanded session.
President Lee is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with G7 leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Shinzo Ishiba, before or after the expanded session.
However, the specific date has yet to be confirmed. The South Korean presidential office said, "The date is currently being adjusted."
After completing his G7 schedule in the afternoon of the 17th, President Lee will travel again to Calgary before returning home.
