Yes24 hit by ransomware in 9 cases in South Korea this year
South Korea has been hit by a series of large-scale hacking attacks on domestic companies such as SK Telecom and major online bookstore Yes24, and ransomware attacks targeting domestic institutions this year.
According to information released by the South Korean security services on the 17th, between January and April of this year, a group of hackers had launched attacks on the dark web and other online services.
A total of nine cases have been publicly reported of ransomware attacks against domestic companies and institutions in South Korea. Ransomware is a type of malware that encrypts files on computers and servers, and then makes it difficult to recover them.
This is a cyber attack method that demands money in exchange for damages. As a specific example, in January this year, the world-famous ransomware group Intel Broker hacked the source code of the South Korean Ministry of Environment.
The leaked source code is believed to come from the Ministry of Environment's National Fine Dust Information Center.
In the same month, a ransomware group calling itself "nick_diesel" ransomware attack on Naver's "Smart Store."
In fact, it was reported that data on 730,000 Naver sellers was distributed on the dark web between January 4th of this year and the beginning of this month.
In response, Naver explained that this was not a ransomware attack, but rather that malicious access to information that had already been made public had been tampered with to create the data.
In March, "babuk-bjorka," a group that targets infrastructure and government agencies mainly in North America and Europe, uncovered a number of cyberattacks, including the South Korean Ministry of Defense, Carrier Network, and Disaster Safety Communications.
In April, the hacking group Thales attacked KS Korea Employment Information, a call center outsourcing company, and hacked job titles and positions.
The Personal Information Protection Commission has launched an investigation into the incident, which led to the leak of personnel information such as the names and birth dates of employees.
hacking of Sam Seung A Tech by "Nksek", attack on Shinsung Delta Tech by "Lynx", creative convergence talent training by "eosae"
These include the hacking of the National Guard Hospital by DWARM14, the hacking of The Cream Union by Nightspire, and the leaking of scripts from Casmodans Studios by Nightspire.
Prior to this, SK Shields announced on the 13th of this month that the number of ransomware attacks worldwide had reached a total of 2,575 in its first quarter ransomware trend report.
It is estimated that this is a 122% increase compared to the same period last year.
