"It's embarrassing that there's been no reaction from the People Power Party (the largest opposition party) lawmakers," South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said during a policy speech in the National Assembly on the 26th.
President Lee said, "There is no 'color' in diplomacy. It is neither reform nor conservatism, but the only criterion for selection should be whether it is in the national interest or not."
He laughed when he said the above because there was no reaction from the People Power Party. The ruling Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party had completely opposite reactions even before the policy speech.
As President Lee entered the main hall, ruling party lawmakers stood in the center aisle and applauded to welcome him, and President Lee shook hands with each ruling party lawmaker in turn before ascending to the stage.
The ruling party lawmakers continued to applaud until President Lee took the stage, while the People Power Party lawmakers rose from their seats but welcomed him in silence.
Also, as President Lee finished his policy speech and left the assembly hall, he headed to the opposition party seats and shook hands with each of the People Power Party lawmakers and had brief conversations with them.
In particular, the fact that he exchanged greetings with People Power Party lawmaker Kwon Seong-dong, who has been a friend since their university days, attracted attention.
