Ruling and opposition parties agree on commercial law amendments... ”To be discussed in the Legislation and Judicial Affairs Committee tomorrow” = South Korea
On the 1st, the ruling Democratic Party of Korea and the People's Power Party announced that they had "agreed to make efforts to reach a possible agreement tomorrow" regarding the proposed Commercial Code revisions.
After a closed-door meeting at the National Assembly that afternoon, the floor leaders and the deputy floor leaders of both parties announced that they would hold a meeting tomorrow to discuss the amendment to the Commercial Code in the Legislation and Judiciary Committee.
"We plan to hold a discussion," he said. Yoo Sang-beom, the National Party's chief deputy floor leader, said, "We will fully communicate each party's opinions and hold a meeting with the Legislation and Judiciary Committee tomorrow."
"We plan to hold a subcommittee meeting to discuss the matter. We have nothing to say specifically about what will be discussed," he said. Moon Jin-seok, the Democratic Party's senior deputy floor leader, said, "We have heard concerns from the business community and have been working to resolve issues between the ruling and opposition parties.
The bill was passed by the National Assembly under the leadership of the Democratic Party, but was overturned by the resignation of former President Yoon Seok-yeol.
The bill was scrapped due to the exercise of the veto, but is being pushed forward again after the inauguration of the Lee Jae-myung administration. The Democratic Party of Korea plans to process the bill by the end of the June extraordinary National Assembly session on the 4th.
The government has now withdrawn its opposition and made it clear it will begin to consider the matter positively, but says further discussions are needed to allay companies' concerns.
