Byeon Woo Seok's bodyguard and security company fined 1 million won for excessive security
The bodyguards and security company that caused controversy by excessively protecting actor Byeon Woo Seok at Incheon International Airport last year were fined. The court also reprimanded Byeon Woo Seok.
Incheon Branch Criminal Court 6 Exclusive Judge Shin Hoon-ho imposed a fine of 1 million won (approximately 100,000 yen) on security guard A and security company B, who were brought to trial on suspicion of violating the Security Business Act.
On July 2nd, the police announced that they had been sentenced to 100,000 yen. They were accused of engaging in acts outside the scope of their security duties, such as displaying force towards other passengers, while guarding Byeon Woo Seok at Incheon International Airport on July 12th of last year.
Article 15 of the Security Business Act stipulates that security guards must not engage in any acts outside the scope of security work, such as demonstrating force or using physical force against others, while performing their duties.
At the time, many fans gathered when Byeon WooSeok was leaving Incheon Airport for his departure. During this time, security guards were flashing their flashlights at other passengers, checking their tickets,
Judge Shin said, "The act of shining a light on someone constitutes an act of physical force and does not fall within the scope of security duties," and "Taking pictures with a cell phone is not acceptable."
"The defendant shone a light on a person who was not considered to be particularly dangerous and stimulated their visual organs," he said. However, he added, "The defendant had not engaged in such conduct before this incident, and will not engage in such conduct in the future.
Judge Shin also made reprimanding remarks to Byeon WooSeok. The judge said, "The person being protected (Byeong WooSeok) quietly avoided the people chasing him and quietly entered the airport.
"If the purpose of his actions at the time was to prevent the filming of those he was protecting, he would not have disclosed the schedule, hidden his face with a hat or mask, and kept the filming private.
He added, "At the time, the person being protected was rather exposed to the public and moved to places where fans were gathered, such as fan meetings."
He continued.
