The U.S. government condemned North Korea for "sending troops to serve Russia in its war of aggression in Ukraine as a violation of UN Security Council resolutions."
A State Department spokesman said at a press conference on the 29th (local time) that "Russia's training of North Korean soldiers is in violation of the Security Council (sanctions against North Korea)."
"This is a direct violation of resolutions 1718, 1874, and 2270 of the UN Security Council," the statement continued. "North Korean military personnel have provided training and assistance in the use of ballistic missiles and other weapons."
"Accepting or receiving any nuclear weapons from Russia or North Korea would violate these provisions, in addition to continuing violations of the UN arms embargo by Russia and North Korea."
He also said, “At the UN Security Council meeting on the 30th, due to the opposition of Russia, a permanent member of the Security Council, it will be difficult to impose sanctions not only on Russia but also on North Korea.
In response to the suggestion that "there is a high possibility that sanctions will be imposed," the spokesman said, "We maintain the capability to impose sanctions on both Russia and North Korea."
