Koo Tae-jin, producer of The Inheritance of the Goddess and The Chaser, was keen to make a horror film based on the Nulbom Garden. As his directorial debut, he also wrote the script himself, bringing to life a project full of forbidden horror. The story takes place in a house with a large garden named Nulbom Garden, where unidentified figures appear in the windows and in the shadows, in a ‘family horror’ film set in a home that has been the scene of accidents. Urban legends, witchcraft, mystery and other elements are skillfully intertwined as the story unfolds.
The Japanese trailer opens with a group of young people attempting to break into a house without permission. This house is where Chang-su (Ho Dong-won), who suddenly took his own life one day, bought a mansion in the suburbs to live with his wife So-hee (Cho Yuni) and had been renovating it without telling her. When So-hee inherits the house and decides to live there, he tells her, ‘Get out of this house. The film shows a sorceress (Jung In-kyeom) eerily warning So-hee that she will become a living corpse if she becomes obsessed with the house, and the disturbing scene of a girl who encounters ‘something’ in the garden of the Nulbom Garden and talks to it. The second half of the film shows a succession of horrifying descriptions of the bizarre phenomena that attack those who become involved with the house, and ends with a shocking scene that takes place at the edge of the garden.
The new scenes focus on images of the extraordinary events that occur around the house. In the new scenes, Seo-hee is confronted by something evil that haunts the house as she investigates on her own with the help of a few clues, hoping to find out the truth behind her husband's death. Other scenes include a sorceress peeping into a room, Seo-hee's sister Hye-ran (Kim Joo-ryong) losing her mind and raising a kitchen knife, and someone with monstrous hands grabbing the hand of someone holding a motorbike handlebar, raising expectations for the film, which depicts people at the mercy of the horrific curse of Nulbom Garden. The cuts raise expectations for the film, which depicts the people who are under a terrifying curse in the Nulbom Garden.
