Netflix's "Squid Game" Season 2 (hereinafter "Squid Game 2") has had the highest number of views (viewing time divided by the total running time of the work) in its first week of release on Netflix to date.
"Squid Game 2" depicts the fierce conflict between Ki-hoon (played by Lee Jung Jae), who returns to the game with a vow of revenge, and the frontman (played by Lee Byung Hun) who welcomes him.
It is a story about a real game that begins anew after the protagonist is defeated. Since its release on December 26th last year, it has recorded 68 million views in four days and ranked first in the global TOP 10.
It set a new release week record for highest viewership numbers in its first week, making it the seventh most popular non-English series of Netflix's history based on its first week alone.
This far surpasses the previous record of 50.1 million viewers in its first week, set by "Wednesday," and Season 1 also ranked in the Global Top 10 Series (Non-English) category.
"Squid Game" season 3 will be released in 2025.
