Today, on March 1 (Independence Movement Day), large rallies will be held in downtown Seoul to argue for or against the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol. These rallies will bring together tens of thousands of citizens.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 28th that on March 1, groups for and against impeachment will hold a protest at Se Jeongdae in Gwanghwamun, Seoul.
The government announced that large-scale rallies and marches involving tens of thousands of people would be held in areas such as Sejong-daero, Jongno, and Yeouido, and that some roads would be closed.
According to police, in Seoul's Jongno district, pro-impeachment groups such as the "Emergency Action Calling for Resignation" held a rally in the Sajik-ro area on the afternoon of the 1st.
At the same time, in nearby Gwanghwamun, anti-impeachment groups including the Liberty United Party will hold a rally on Sejong-daero and then proceed through Eulji-ro to Jinan-do.
The march will continue to the Jaedong intersection. A rally will also be held in Yeouido. The anti-impeachment group Save Korea will hold a rally on one side of Yeouidaero from 1 p.m. on the 1st.
Seoul police plan to introduce variable lanes for vehicle traffic during the rally and march. In addition, to minimize inconvenience to citizens, the police will set up roads in the areas where the rally and march will take place.
About 270 traffic police officers will be deployed in the area. A police official said, "Traffic congestion is expected in areas where rallies are being held, such as Sejong-daero and Sajik-ro in the city center and Yeouidaero in Yeouido.
"Please use public transportation such as subways as much as possible, and if you have to use a car, please check traffic information in advance," the ministry said.
