A woman in her 40s who posted malicious comments about singer and actress IU was sentenced to a fine for defamation. According to legal circles on the 5th, the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 20Exclusive
In February of last year, Mr. A posted on a portal site that he had "briberied the judge" in relation to IU's management office EDAM Entertainment.
In response, Mr. A claimed, "I did not make the comment."
Mr. A's side argued that the crime did not constitute defamation, but the court did not accept this, determining that Mr. A showed no remorse.
Prior to this, in April 2022, Mr. A wrote four malicious comments belittling IU's singing ability, costumes, etc., and was put on trial on suspicion of posting malicious comments.
The prosecution sought a four-month prison sentence, and Mr. A pleaded for leniency, saying, "I suffer from a mental illness and my writing skills are poor."
However, the court imposed a fine of 3 million won.
"This is considered a personal attack that is offensive and derogatory in nature," he explained. Following the fine he was given for posting malicious comments, A was once again given a fine for making insults, drawing attention.
