Former T-ARA member ARUM receives suspended prison sentence for fraud charges after failing to pay back money borrowed from his own fan
Arum, a former member of the girl group T-ARA, who was indicted on suspicion of borrowing money from fans and acquaintances and then repaying it, has been given a suspended prison sentence on appeal.
On the 13th (today), the Suwon District Court Criminal Appeal Division 5 overturned the original ruling in the appeal trial of the case regarding the allegations of fraud by ARUM and her boyfriend A, and ruled that A
A was sentenced to one year and four months in prison, and ARUM to four months in prison with one year of probation. Previously, in the first trial, A was sentenced to one year and six months in prison, and ARUM to six months in prison with two years of probation.
The appeals court said, "The defendants conspired with A, knowing that A would commit fraud against their fans and others, and repeatedly committed fraud against the victims, and are not guilty of any crimes.
"However, taking into consideration that he regrets his crimes and that he agreed with the victim on some of the fraudulent crimes, the original sentence is a little too severe and unjust," the court ruled.
Regarding A, the judge continued, "He has repeatedly committed fraud, the total amount of damages is considerable, and his guilt is heavy." "However, he has come to an agreement with some of the victims and admitted to all of his crimes."
"A and his associates were indicted on suspicion of not paying back the money they borrowed from a fan and three acquaintances after borrowing around 37 million won (approximately 4.2 million yen).
They filed a complaint with the police between March and May of last year. Meanwhile, ARUM joined T-ARA in 2012 and left the group the following year in 2013.
