At around 44 minutes, in the downtown area of Cheorye-dong, Suncheon-si, Park (30) stabbed A (18) several times with a weapon and fled. A was taken to a university hospital in Gwangju for treatment.
However, he later died. CCTV footage from the scene showed Park, wearing a dark short-sleeved T-shirt, swinging his right arm back and forth as he followed A, who was walking in front of him, and brandishing the murder weapon.
The video clearly showed the scene. Ms. A collapsed on the spot, and Park fled across the parking lot next to the road. The witness said, "The girl (Ms. A) screamed, so I stopped her.
"I chased after him, but he ran away. When I asked him if he knew the man, he said, 'I don't know him.' The girl said, 'Help me,' and lost consciousness," he told MBC.
After the crime, Park was walking down the street in a drunken state and got into a fight with a passerby about 2 kilometers away from the crime scene at around 3 a.m. on the same day. He was arrested by police who were called in after receiving a report.
Police found the murder weapon believed to have been used in the crime in the parking lot where Park was walking. Park and Ms. A are residents living near the crime scene, but they did not know each other.
At the time, Mr. A was on his way home after seeing off a friend. The police are investigating the possibility that this was a "random attack." They are also considering whether to obtain an arrest warrant for Park after grasping the circumstances of the crime.
The plan is to apply for a permit.
