The movie "Crash: The Man Who Failed in Business" (hereafter "Crash") is a crime drama based on the true story of the cryptocurrency crash that shocked the world with the disappearance of 50 trillion won.
The scriptwriter and director, Hyun Hyeri, is a producer who has directed many current affairs educational programs, including "The Woman Who Only Had Contract Work 9 Times" which was well received at the Cannes Festival.
As is well known, the movie is based on the real-life incident of the "Luna cryptocurrency crash," which claimed 280,000 lives in South Korea alone.
When director Hyun Ha-ri first planned "Crash" it was meant to be a six-part web TV series.
Each episode depicts the protagonist's failure in a black comedy style.
But as I delved deeper into the real people in the story, I felt the weight of the story and a structural change was needed.
In order to deal with this, it was necessary to reconstruct it into a feature-length film. Based on more thorough prior research and legal precedents, the incident was reconstructed after careful consideration and legal consultation.
Director Hyun Hyeri said, "Song Jae Lim showed a meticulous and professional performance as she plays a character related to a real incident."
The day before each shoot, I would carefully check the latest articles related to the incident and suggest things like, 'This interview came out yesterday,' or 'Let's change this part of the script a little.'"
"The Crash: A Man Who Failed in Business," a film depicting the "Luna cryptocurrency crash" that shocked the whole world, will be released in Korea on January 15, 2025.
