”Squid Game 3” director Hwang Dong-hyuk: ”It's darker and more brutal than Season 2... but at the same time it's pretty quirky and humorous”

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk expressed his confidence in season 3 of "Squid Game." Season 3 of the Netflix series "Squid Game" features a game where the protagonist returns with his own purpose.
The story follows Ki-hoon (played by Lee Jung Jae), who lost his best friend in the game, the frontman (played by Lee Byung Hun), who was hiding his true identity and blending into the game, and the participants who survived the brutal game.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said about season 3 of "Squid Game," "Season 3 will be darker and more brutal than season 2, but at the same time it will be quite quirky and humorous."
He then went on to talk about the game set, which is a symbol of "Squid Game," saying, "Through the game set, I wanted to express the atmosphere of their childhood and the dark situations and moral dilemmas they find themselves in."
"I wanted to depict the cruel fate of those who perish in battle. I wanted to ask the fundamental question: Do we have humanity, and does our humanity have the ability and power to make the world a better place?"
The VIP room set that was revealed at the same time is even more gorgeous and diverse in scale. First of all, unlike the previous seasons, which used black marble, the VIP room set is now white marble.
The P Room is clearly representative of Season 3. Art director Choi Kyung-seon expressed the contrast between the fiery Ki-hoon and the ice-cold frontman with white marble, creating a TV Series theme.
The dining area for VIPs is also attracting attention. "The hexagon is a solid shape, and it has an oracle-like feel to it. I wanted to express that," said Choi Gyeong-soo.
As Art Director Jongsung said, the VIP room in Season 3 has a more secrecy-like and private feel to it, while at the same time creating a clearer contrast with the space in which participants risk their lives to play the game.
He went on to explain in detail, "I thought that the cruel, violent, all-encompassing evil was 'poison.' So I designed the VIP room using various colors to represent poisonous plants.
In season 1, we used a grassland-like feel to represent a world of the survival of the fittest, and in season 3, we created a space with a bold design using gorgeous but dangerous poisonous plants."
"Squid Game" Season 3 will be released on Netflix on the 27th.
